Discovering Renaissance Art in Florence

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The city of Florence – often called the ‘Cradle of the Renaissance’ – is home to some of Western civilization’s greatest works of art and architecture. Let’s travel through the centuries to discover masterpieces by Florence’s praised painters, sculptors, inventors, and theorists – from Giotto to Michelangelo.
Included in the program: Guided Tours and entrance to Museums such as Galleria degli Uffizi, Opera del Duomo, and others.
TOPICS:
– Overview of Renaissance art and architecture in Florence and the ‘rebirth’ of beauty, truth, and wisdom;
– Florence’s beginnings, starting with its foundation as a Roman colony;
– The development of humanism and the progressive mindset;
– Early Renaissance in Florence: Masters of the 14th and 15th centuries, from Cimabue to Botticelli;
– The role of patronage in Renaissance art, the Medici family, and the Platonic Academy;
– Late Renaissance in Florence: Art history’s famous competing geniuses, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo;
– An introduction to Mannerism.
SAMPLE PROGRAMME:
1) Monday
– Course introduction and precursors to Renaissance art
– Visit to San Miniato al Monte with a panoramic view of Florence. Romanesque architecture, mosaics, and Byzantine iconography.
2) Tuesday
– Florence from the Middle Ages to the Early Renaissance
– Visit to Basilica di Santa Croce: Cimabue, Giotto, Brunelleschi, Donatello
3) Wednesday
– The rediscovery of perspective
– Visit to Basilica di Santa Maria Novella with art activity in the cloisters
4) Thursday
– Neoplatonism and symbolism in art
– Visit to San Marco Museum: Michelozzo, Fra Angelico, Ghirlandaio, Girolamo Savonarola and the campaign for Christian renewal
5) Friday
– Mannerism
– Visit to Museo dell’Opera del Duomo
*** SATURDAY (optional) – Excursion and other external cultural activities / Free Day
The majority of cultural activities are planned for Saturday. However, if these activities include tickets to museums, city cards, or visits organized with an external tour operator, you may choose to use these earlier in the week. Please note that if you decide to use these options before Saturday, there will be no additional activities on that day. One cultural activity is included in a course price – please note that if you choose not to participate, the price of the course stays the same. If you would like to take part in more than one activity – might be possible with an additional fee and if we will have free spaces left. Sample activities in Florence to choose from (we inform about possible activities and how to enroll on the first day of the course):
– Half-day tour to Chianti

– 3 hours Italian cooking class
INNE INFORMACJE:
– Kurs skierowany jest głównie do uczestników programu Erasmus+.
– Kurs zamawiany jest standardowo na opcję 5-dniową. Jeżeli chcą Państwo zamówić opcję 6-dniową (z ujętą sobotą), prosimy o zgłoszenie tego w uwagach do zamówienia.
– W cenie kursu zawarta min. jedna aktywność kulturalna, gdzie zazwyczaj aktywność ta organizowana jest w trakcie weekendu (sobota). Uczestnictwo w programie kulturowym jest opcjonalne dla szkolenia 5-dniowego.
– Certyfikat: Aby otrzymać certyfikat po kursie, wymagane jest minimum 80% obecności na zajęciach. Standardowo certyfikaty wystawiane są na 5 dni (poniedziałek-piątek). Jeżeli chcą Państwo certyfikat na 6 dni (z ujęciem soboty), prosimy o zgłoszenie tego w uwagach do zamówienia.
– Bez względu na to, czy zamówienie jest na kurs 5-dniowy czy na 6-dniowy, cena pozostaje taka sama. W cenie kursu zawarta min. jedna aktywność kulturowa – rezygnacja z udziału w programie kulturowym nie ma wpływu na cenę (brak uczestnictwa w programie kulturowym nie oznacza zmniejszenia ceny za kurs).
– Harmonogram i rozkład zajęć: To szkoła ustala plan zajęć. Zajęcia odbywają standardowo od poniedziałku do piątku w godzinach 9:00-14:00 lub 14:00-19:00 (możliwy układ mieszany np. w część dni rano, w część dni popołudniu).
– Program kursu: Powyżej przedstawiony przykładowy program zajęć jest orientacyjny i może różnić się w zależności od trenera, który będzie go przeprowadzał, jak również od sugestii i próśb uczestników co do treści, które chcieliby uwzględnić w trakcie kursu. Dokładny plan zajęć wraz z harmonogramem przesyłany jest do uczestników na około tydzień-dwa przed kursem. Mail wysyłany jest przez nauczyciela prowadzącego zajęcia.
UWAGA! Dla rezerwacji na mniej niż 8 tygodni od daty rozpoczęcia kursu, szkoła zagraniczna dolicza dodatkową opłatę za późną rezerwację w kwocie 60 EUR i dolicza ją do ceny kursu!
